Farming and Land Management

The Clarence Valley Local Government Area is home to over 2000 family farms.  We work with landholders, government agencies, and the wider community to promote and support land management that is good for people and Nature.

What does good land management look like?

We share information, facilitate workshops and foster partnerships to support:

  • Healthy soil and plants for farm production and extreme weather resilience
  • Clean water for river ecosystem health and swimmable waterholes
  • Healthy wildlife and habitats, working with Nature
  • Exploring emerging markets for Carbon, Biodiversity, and Water Credits as alternative farm income

Projects

NGO Flood Support Program

This project supported Clarence Landcare to engage private landholders in the mid-lower Clarence Valley and deliver workshops to increase understanding of riverbank erosion processes. Plans were developed to revegetate cleared floodplain farmland and restore eroded riparian zones with local native plant species.

Delivery: September 2022- June 2023

Funded By: NSW Government

Dung beetles

Dung Beetles

In collaboration with other Landcare networks and the Innovation Hub at Southern Cross University, we distributed batches of dung beetles to farms to increase the number and variety of species of these important ‘farm livestock’.  We continue to support dung beetle monitoring and how to promote increased dung beetle activity.

Delivery: 2023 and ongoing

Funded By: Future Drought Fund

Farm Tree Planting

A shared passion to see more trees on farms led to a keen group of volunteer tree planters, who teamed up with Landcare nurseries to supply seedlings, and farmers to fence off sections of the paddock for planting.  The plantings will result in shady, nature-rich refuges on otherwise cleared farmland.
